【「藥」好吃嗎？Medicine 到底要怎麼吃？】
這也是你應該「知道」的事，但是很多英文很流利的人，包括一些台灣的英文老師也會忘記：
✘ I ate a lot of medicine this week.
（我這個星期吃了好多藥。）
錯誤的原因不難判斷：就是直接將「吃藥」的「吃」翻譯成eat。錯了！你的國中（不，國小！）老師跟你說過吧，正確的用法應該是：
✓ I took a lot of medicine this week.
很簡單。不過，你相信我，很多人⋯⋯啊，好的，我閉嘴。
其實，eat medicine 有特別的意思，但意思格外奇怪。意思是，你是為了藥的味道吃的！聽到別人說eat medicine，我會聯想到人拿出一套餐具──叉子、湯匙、刀子──然後開始切，好好地享受、品味！歷史上真的有這種人嗎？（哈哈，應該有，歷史上什麼樣的變態都不缺吧。）
不管受詞是medicine 或是代替medicine 的字如apirin 或vitamin，動詞還是用take。
The doctor wants me to take this medicine. God, it tastes terrible!
（醫生要我吃這種藥。天啊，它的味道好可怕！）
I took some aspirin for my headache this morning. I feel a lot better now.
（我早上頭痛吃了一些aspirin，現在覺得好多了。）
My friend said that I don't have to take vitamins every morning.
（我朋友說我不需要每天早上吃維他命。）
有一次，我的學生問我：
I don't want to study. Can I just take English pills?
（我不想要用功。可以只吃英文會好的藥丸嗎？）
什麼？那個English pill 你正在用眼睛吃 ! ）
